People and organisations BHL should talk to

This is sort of a note to myself, but every so often I come across people or organisations that I think would be really interesting to talk to about digital libraries and the future of BHL. I thought I’d keep a list here, feel free to add other suggestions in the comments.

Aaron Tay

Aaron Tay is on Bluesky @aarontay.bsky.social on Bluesky and Substack. He writes regularly about AI and digital libraries, and is forthright with his opinions (including making fun of Boolean search).

Digirati

Digirati do some cool work with digital collections, and have a blog on Medium. Come for the LLMs, stay for IIIF.

I see Aaron Tay will be one of the keynotes at VALA in November, where @bhl_nicole and Jack Eastaugh are presenting. Read his blog? Watched a webinar? Had a colleague send you something with “Aaron Tay has written about this”? This November, hear the person behind Musings about Librarianship in person. Now I’m envious of @bhl_nicole and @bhlau_jack.

We’ll definitely report back. Are there any particular questions you’d like us to ask?

There’s no one specific question I would ask (I’d want a conversation not a Q&A). I think it’s more a case of what do you think of his vision of digital libraries, and what, if anything, are the implications for BHL?

After giving this more than two seconds thought @bhl_nicole , one question might what his advice would be for a digital library like BHL that wants to maximise its discoverability and utility, given the current landscape of both open and closed search engines such as Google Scholar and OpenAlex.
