Support for Macaw Users from BHL Australia

Hi everyone, I’m Jack Eastaugh, Digitisation Coordinator of BHL Australia. Our team is one of the most active Macaw user groups in the Southern Hemisphere.

We work with a dedicated team of volunteers who use Macaw as a regular part of our workflow, particularly for pagination and metadata addition. Over time, we’ve built up a lot of practical experience supporting our own volunteers, as well as helping others in the community get started and work confidently in Macaw.

We use Macaw across the full ingest process. Our volunteers, however, work on just one part of that process: pagination and metadata addition. To support them, we’ve recently updated our Macaw User Guide for BHL Australia Volunteers, a guide focused specifically on that part of the work. Although this guide is tailored to our volunteer workflow, we hope it may also be useful to others in the BHL community, especially anyone looking for a simple introduction to the pagination and metadata side of Macaw.

We’re also happy to share advice and practical help based on our experience of the broader BHL Macaw workflow. Whether you’re getting started, supporting volunteers, or have questions about Macaw more generally, please feel free to reply here.

If others here are also using Macaw, we’d love to hear how you are using it, what documentation or training materials you have found useful, and what questions commonly come up in your own workflows.

Happy Macawing!
